Shay loves giving Bora treats. The pictures are blurry, but you can get the idea.

Here Shay is getting the treat from our MESSY pantry.

Bora is definitely grateful!

I wish I had pictures to go along with this post. Shay has been a huge help around the house lately. For example, yesterday I was packing up the linen closet. I was putting all the towels in a box. Shay caught on to what I was doing. He immediately went to the closet and brought me a towel. I said thank you and put it in the box. He then continued to do this until the towels were all in the box!

Later in the day Ellie wasn’t feeling so well (we are taking her to the doctor later this morning). She was upset. Shay didn’t like the fact that his friend was crying. He disappeared into the bonus room. When he came back he had a rattle in his hands. He gently gave it to Ellie to try to calm her down. How sweet! I just about melted right there. He is really going to miss having Ellie around all the time. It’s so cute watching them light up when the other enters a room.

I absolutely love it that Shay is learning how things work. Our next step is to get him to learn to not get near the dog bowls. Honestly, I think I had to drag him away from there 20 times yesterday!

We are learning so much! May 8, 2009

Shay is growing up so fast. It has been so much fun to watch him learn new things. Today he learned how to put his stacking blocks back on the ring. That sounds so small, but to me it was huge. I’m used to him taking all the blocks off and then he’s done with that toy on and to the next. He was so proud today when he figured out how to put them back on!

Shay’s new thing is pointing.

He also learned how to get in and out of his rocking chair yesterday. He was definitely proud of himself.

We tried to play with his new sprinkler. I think he’s still a little young for that one :)

There are several no-no’s in this picture!

Shay’s birthday letter February 20, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mgillen @ 2:24 am

Shay,
Happy birthday baby! I can’t believe we’ve experienced a whole year together already. What a ride it’s been!

Every day I thank God that you are our son. You have such a special personality. With you, there is no guessing at how you are feeling. When you are happy, the world knows it. Your smile warms my heart. Your laugh makes me laugh.  I love getting to know the person that God has made you to be.

You LOVE life.  You LOVE people.  You don’t want to miss a minute (it’s obvious when you don’t want to go to sleep) :)

I never want to forget what we’ve been through together in one short year.  We’ve seen so many thrilling, sad, scary, and good times.  In the past year you have had a visit to the ER, had three stitches, an ear infection and several bumps and bruises.  You are ALL boy.  I think you have inspected (and licked) every inch of our house.  You’ve learned to sit, eat, stand, pull up, and cruise.  You’ve even taken a few steps!  You play peek-a-boo, and love to be read to.

Every night as I am putting you down for bed, I grasp anew what an honor and privilege I have to be your mom.   God has given me you to raise alongside your dad.  I am constantly praying that we will be the parents that God wants us to be.  I also pray that you will become the boy and eventually the man that God wants YOU to be.

Shay, I’m looking forward to another year as your mom.  I can’t wait to see how you are going to grow and learn.  I hope I don’t forget these times either.  You are my firstborn…my baby…and I love you.

Mom

I saw this on the girl talk blog that I often read. I laughed so hard that I just had to post it here.

Date Night January 20, 2009

Pat and I were able to go on a date last night thanks to Pat’s mom. We had an amazing dinner at FireWater Chop House. It is super expensive (we had a gift certificate from Restaurant.com), but the food was great.
After dinner we went to see the movie Defiance. It was awesome. Daniel Craig did an awesome job.
I love having time to spend with just Pat. We had a great night together.
Shay also had a great night hanging with his Gran Jan.
I’m definitely feeling spoiled. Two date nights in one week!

Table Food January 19, 2009

Shay has been a little slow getting started on table food.  It’s difficult to eat most table food when you only have two teeth :)  Here are some pictures of him eating his first waffle, and then some ravioli. He had a blast!

Now we just need to teach him how to chew with his mouth closed!

I love watching Shay get older.  He amazes me everyday.

The 5 Minutes after Breakfast January 19, 2009

I’ve been wondering why I haven’t been blogging as much as I did before. I have figured it out. This is what happened in the 5 minutes after breakfast this morning.

He went from the high chair, straight to the trash can.

Then it was off for Bora’s nasty tennis ball.

A brief climb in his seat.

Enough of that!

He had to stop to eat something off the floor.

Off to the stairs.

We can’t forget the stereo.

Ok, that’s more like it!

I think the only thing he didn’t go for this morning was Bora’s food!

A little late January 3, 2009

We have just seemed to be so busy lately. I’m finally sitting down long enough to post some pics from Christmas. We had a great time with my family in Virginia. We stayed busy while we were there. We were able to see lots of family and friends. Shay was perfect…except for any time it was time for sleep. He didn’t want to miss a thing.

Shay is just a small little teddy bear!

Shay was fascinated by Elmo.  It’s hilarious to watch :)

My blog has been out of commission for what seems like forever. Here’s a quick glimpse of what we’ve been up to.

img_1649

We tried to enjoy one of the last warm days of the fall.  It didn’t work out too well.  Maybe it’s because I made him wear that silly hat!

img_1699

We had a great Thanksgiving.  We got to see my parents at Myrtle Beach.  We then met up with all of the Gillen’s at Seabrook.  The only downside is that I forgot my suitcase!  Thankfully, all the Gillen ladies pitched in to dress me :)

These two can’t seem to get enough of each other!

This is one of the last pictures we have of Shay before his first tooth came in!
