I made it through my first day back at school. I actually had a great time seeing all of my students again. I didn’t realize I had missed them so much until I got back!
It was hard not being with Shay today…but my heart was at ease knowing that Shay was in such good hands. Pat is an awesome dad!
I also signed up to run a 5K today. Erin from work asked me to run (walk) the race with her. It’s on April 12th. We’re trying to prepare for the Peachtree in July. If anyone else is willing to run it with us, check out the link

First Day Back March 31, 2008
Thoughts of the Day March 27, 2008
- I visited Chestatee today to see what I will be teaching when I go back on Monday. It was so good to see everyone there. I’m so thankful for the job I have and the people I work with. It was also nice to show Shay off. He did great (besides spitting up all over his outfit right before we got in).
- I still don’t know what Vanessa and I will be teaching next year, but it seems like we will probably be teaching what I teach now. I love teaching language arts, so that would be great.
- Vanessa and I are going to pamper ourselves a little bit tonight. Pat is going to watch Shay while we go and get a pedicure. Now that the weather is turning nice, I’m so excited to start wearing sandals!
- Shay is a great baby! I learned a new trick today to help him take a nap. He didn’t want to fall asleep (although it was time for him to) so I simply turned on the vacuum and set it close to his bassinet. He was out within a minute. I slowly dragged the vacuum away and then turned it off. He is still out.
- I feel so blessed every day. It’s hard to get my mind around the fact that I am part of this amazing life. I love being a wife and mom.
Simple Delights March 24, 2008
One of the simple things that I’ve enjoyed the most during my maternity leave with Shay is waking up, taking care of Shay, and then enjoying breakfast and coffee while I listen to music and catch up on email, etc. Shay takes his morning nap right beside me in his bassinet. I’m not sure why this time is so special to me, but I look forward to it every morning.
Surprisingly, I’ve done very well about not drinking too much caffeine. It’s no secret to anyone how much I enjoy a good cup of coffee. Since Shay’s arrival I’ve been drinking mostly decaf. Every once in a while, I will add some caffeinated to the decaf (usually after a long night).
We had a great Easter. It was extremely laid back. We went to church and had a communion service. I was in children’s church. Pat brought in the pita bread and juice for me to talk to the kids about what communion is and what it symbolizes. I was pointing to the pita bread when I asked on the the smaller kids what he thought it was. He was extremely sure of himself when he pronounced, PANCAKES!
Month 1 Well Visit March 20, 2008
Shay and I went to the pediatrician for his one month well visit today. He now weighs 8 lbs. and 12 oz. He has almost grown an entire inch! He is now 21 1/4 inches long.
Everything looked good. I hate to be a bragging mom, but the doctor said that he acts older than he really is (really it’s just because he is so alert).
They did give him a prescription for some oral drops that will hopefully help his fussiness. He hasn’t been napping well during the day for a few days now. I gave him his first batch of drops a little while ago and he was out a few minutes later.
Next month when we go to the pediatrician Shay will get his vacinations.
Any ideas? March 19, 2008
I’m looking for some good new music. I’m looking for a certain sound. The sound I’m looking for is similar to Watermark or Nicole Nordeman. They have a good sound with amazing lyrics. Does anyone know if any new Christian music that falls into that category?
New Toy March 19, 2008
I got a new MacBook yesterday. I haven’t had a laptop in almost 5 years. I forgot how great it is to be able to use a computer anywhere in the house. It’s definitely a nicer computer than what I need, but I count it as a huge blessing. I’m hoping that I will use it to help chronicle Shay’s life.
Routine March 15, 2008
I am desperately trying to create a routine with Shay. For the past few days he’s been abnormally fussy during the afternoon and evening. He sleeps great at night, and the first few hours of the morning are always pleasant. I was debating whether I thought he had colic or not because of all of these other fussy periods. Today I am going to try to stick closely to a routine found in the book Babywise. I’ll let you know if it works
Last night Pat and I both had plans and we didn’t have anyone to watch Shay. Vanessa and Jen came over to watch him while I went to a girls night out baby shower and Pat went to the gun range. They did a great job! I trusted them so much that I even grabbed a few groceries and picked up Starbucks!
I just got the new Karen Kingsbury book , Someday. I’ve already started reading it. I don’t know why, but I love these books! I think that now that I have a child I will even love them more. I’ll give a review after I finish reading it. Is anyone else reading the series?
Thankful Thursday March 13, 2008
I am a little overwhelmed with thankfulness today. Here are just a few things that I’m thankful for:
- I have a husband that is totally supportive and is great with Shay
- Shay is healthy and happy
- I have great families that I know are here for us whenever we need them
- Our church has done a great job at providing delicious meals for us (thanks Nessa for getting it all organized)
- Lost comes on tonight
- I got an afternoon nap today!
Call me paranoid March 13, 2008
We just got back from a trip to the ER. Don’t worry, Shay’s fine…his mom’s just a little paranoid. Basically, earlier tonight Shay was quite fussy. I was holding him when I realized that he was quite warm. I took his temperature and it registered 100. I knew that in an infant of his age a temperature of 100.5 was dangerous. Babies can’t fight infections well so he would probably need to be hospitalized. Being the good mom that I am, I called the on-call nurse. She said to go immediately to the hospital. We got to Northside Forsyth a little after 11 tonight. When they took his temp it was 99. They did not see any cause for concern. He appears to be extremely healthy. They told us that unless his temp was 100.5 we didn’t need to come in. I guess the on-call nurse was just being safe…unfortunately, that trip to the ER will most likely cost us $100.I don’t know if all of this classifies me as a paranoid mom or not, but I would much rather be safe than sorry.
