Beautiful Mess

Update August 16, 2008

I totally forgot to blog about how Shay is doing (thanks Steph!)

When we went to the doctor they determined that he was neither teething, nor did he have an ear infection.  They checked out his throat and determined that he has some kind of virus.  They did a throat culture and determined that it was not strep.  Basically, there is nothing they can give him (except baby motrin).  This explains why he had trouble eating, was fussy, and not sleeping well at night.

I think the virus is on the way out.  He has been much better since yesterday.  The motrin has worked extremely well.

Teething? August 13, 2008

Tomorrow Shay goes to the doctor to see whether he has an ear infection, or if he is teething.  For about a week he has not been acting like himself.  He has been waking up SEVERAL times a night.  He doesn’t want to eat anything, and every once in awhile he will scream.  We can barely keep up with the drool.  Last night we felt around in Shay and Ellie’s mouth.  It seems like Shay may have a few teeth coming in.

I called the doctor this afternoon about his symptoms.  They want me to come in tomorrow to see what the problem is.  The nurse said that his night sleep should not be so severely affected if he is just teething.  I will keep you updated :)

Thankful August 2, 2008

I am currently thankful for so much:

1. A husband that knows me.  Ever since Shay came along, I feel like Pat is in sync with my feelings.  He knows when to be happy with me, and he knows when I need a little help.  I think that we’ve both learned so much in the past few months.  I think our marriage is becoming stronger than ever!

2. A son that slept until 8 this morning (It really did feel like sleeping in, although we were up from 4-5 in the morning)!

3. For the opportunity to job share this year.  I go back on Monday.  I’m really looking forward to working on a part time schedule.  Before I had kids, I told everyone that I wanted to stay home and not work.  Although that would be amazing, we really can’t afford it.  I’m glad that Vanessa and I have the opportunity to job share.  I totally trust her with Shay.

4. Baby Einstein!  Shay absolutely loves watching Baby Einstein.  It’s our new morning routine.  After I feed him in the morning, we watch Baby Einstein.  He is captivated the entire time.  It allows me to get some stuff done.  I can be in another room and hear him squealing from delight!

5. Consignment!  Christine, Vanessa and I went consignment shopping on Thursday.  I got so much stuff for Shay for a ridiculously low price.  As fast as Shay grows, there is no way that I am going to buy all of his clothes for full retail.

6. Women of the Bible- Pat bought me a devotional a few months ago that goes through all the women of the bible.  I’ve really enjoyed going through this and learning more about biblical women.  It has really opened my eyes.
